Meet the people behind our congregation

Dalene Kelly

Certified Lay Minister

(CLM)

Dalene Kelly was born and raised in Perry, OH and spent most of her life here before moving to Yuma, AZ for 20 years. While serving as treasurer of her UMC church in AZ, Dalene studied for and became a Certified Lay Minister. On returning to Ohio, she completed EOC requirements and transferred that title to Ohio. 

 

After doing pulpit supply (filling in for assorted pastors) Dalene finally accepted her first half-time minister assignment, here at Perry United Methodist Church, where her faith journey began. She has held many paid and volunteer positions through her life, and has even authored several books on creating bead flowers. She is now living in Painesville with her husband, Van Kelly, and their two fur babies.

Brian Mather

Worship Music Leader

Hello, my name is Brian Mather! I have been a part of the music ministry at Perry UMC for 15 years, beginning as the keyboardist. Now, in addition to that role, I’m the praise team leader, voice choir director, and a member of the Hallelujah Handbells handbell choir and the men’s trio. I also teach the Good News & Guys men’s Sunday School class on Sunday mornings prior to the worship service. 

Our praise team rehearses every Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. If you are a singer or an instrumentalist who would like to participate, come join us!

Maddy Pierce

Treasurer

PUMC is pleased to have Madeleine Pierce as our new Treasurer. Maddy grew up attending Perry UMC. Her mother, Reverend Lisa Courtwright, is a Methodist pastor in the East Ohio Conference. A 2018 Perry Schools graduate, Maddy swam for Baldwin Wallace University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Arizona State. She is a photographer, videographer, and artist in addition to being PUMC’s part time Treasurer. She has traveled and worked across the country and worked at Denali National Park as photographer and tour guide. She is also currently working as a manager in a local Market & Café.

Larry Bush

Administrative Assistant

Hello, My name is Larry Bush, and I was born and raised in Madison, Ohio. I am a longtime member of Chapel United Methodist Church where I attended Sunday school as a child and began my faith journey. I am currently Chapel’s administrative assistant too and have worked as their admin for the past nine years. It is a great retirement job. Working for both churches can be quite challenging but I have to admit, I love the challenge, and I love my work. I have had many careers over the years – I have been a salad chef, small engine mechanic, a custodian, and a first-grade teacher but I genuinely love being an administrative assistant at a church with a loving church family.

I live in Madison with my wife, daughter and her husband and six grandchildren. So, I guess the other job I enjoy is being grandpa. I love to bake, cook and watch movies in my spare time.
